FARO Website Inspector Privacy Policy
Information about how FARO Website Inspector handles data in the Chrome extension and the iPhone app.

FARO Website Inspector is available as a Chrome extension and an iPhone app. Both versions allow users to analyse websites and display SEO and technical checks. Normal audits are not automatically sent to Faro Digital Media. In the iPhone app, the user can voluntarily choose to submit a “Fix this website” request; only in that case are the contact details and report described in this policy transmitted to Faro Digital Media.
Versions covered by this policy
The extension analyses the active tab only when the user voluntarily starts an inspection.
The app can inspect a URL or crawl multiple pages of a website using the device’s internet connection. Analysis and report generation take place in the app, except when the user chooses to voluntarily submit a request to Faro Digital Media.
Chrome extension: permissions used
Remote code in the extension
The Chrome extension does not use remote code. All executable JavaScript required for the extension is included within the extension package. It does not download or execute JavaScript or WebAssembly from external servers.
Data and website content analysed during an audit
To perform an audit, FARO Website Inspector may process public or accessible information from the requested page, including the URL, HTTP response code, page title, meta description, headings, links, structured data, Open Graph tags, canonical tags, indexability directives, sitemap information and other technical information required to generate the results. The Chrome version may also analyse rendered-page properties such as images, HTML attributes, element dimensions and computed styles.
Normal audits and crawls
When a user performs a normal inspection or crawl in the iPhone app, FARO Website Inspector makes HTTP requests to the websites the user has chosen to analyse. Faro Digital Media does not automatically receive the crawl report, analysed website content or the user’s contact details simply because an audit is performed. As with any connection to a website, the server of the inspected website may receive standard technical connection data, such as the IP address and request information, subject to that website’s own privacy practices.
Optional “Fix this website” request
The iPhone app includes an optional feature that allows the user to send the complete crawl report to Faro Digital Media to request assistance. This transmission occurs only when the user completes the form and chooses to submit it.
Data sent when this feature is used
- Name provided by the user.
- Email address provided by the user.
- URL of the website analysed.
- Crawl results, such as pages analysed, HTTP status codes, scores, warnings, failed checks, internal links, sitemap information and other technical results generated by the app.
- App language and technical information necessary to process the request.
How submitted data is used
Faro Digital Media uses information submitted through “Fix this website” only to receive, review and respond to the user’s request, provide support related to the report and, where applicable, prepare or discuss possible website correction or improvement services. Submitting this request is voluntary and is not required to use the app’s inspection or crawling features.
Storage, retention and deletion
Normal audits are not automatically stored on Faro Digital Media servers. Information voluntarily submitted through a fix request may be retained in the web systems, email systems or business records used by Faro Digital Media for as long as reasonably necessary to manage and respond to the request, maintain legitimate business records and comply with applicable legal obligations. A user may request access to or deletion of personal data associated with a request by emailing admin@farodigitalmedia.com. Where legally applicable, we will delete or anonymise requested data except where retention is required by law.
Sale, advertising and tracking
Faro Digital Media does not sell personal data submitted through FARO Website Inspector. The app and extension do not use audit data for behavioural advertising or to track the user across apps or websites owned by other companies.
Third parties and external services
HTTP requests required to inspect a website are sent to the website the user chooses to analyse and are subject to that website’s own privacy practices. When the user submits a fix request, the information is transmitted to the web infrastructure and email systems used by Faro Digital Media to receive and respond to the request. Providers that process data on behalf of Faro Digital Media are required to handle it with appropriate safeguards and only to provide the relevant services.
Security
Faro Digital Media applies reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect information it receives. However, no electronic transmission or storage system can guarantee absolute security.
User choices and rights
Users can use the inspection and crawling features without submitting a fix request. If you have submitted personal data to Faro Digital Media, you may request information about that data, correction or deletion, or make other applicable privacy requests by emailing admin@farodigitalmedia.com.
Children’s privacy
FARO Website Inspector is a technical website-analysis tool and is not specifically directed at children. Faro Digital Media does not intentionally solicit personal data from children through the fix-request feature.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy if FARO Website Inspector functionality changes or if updates are required for legal, Chrome Web Store or Apple App Store compliance. The latest revision date will be shown on this page.
